The Boys & Girls Club of Missoula County is a nonprofit organization that has been dedicated to serving the youth of the Missoula community since 1997. Our mission is to provide children with well-trained mentors and to maintain a healthy, drug-free, and safe place to be after-school. We strive to improve performance in school, increase literacy and test scores and make sure our members are not engaging in risky behaviors.
Our Mission
To enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.
To accomplish this we work to provide:
- A safe place to learn and grow…
- Ongoing relationships with caring, adult professionals…
- Life-enhancing programs and character development experiences…
- Hope and opportunity.
The Importance of an After-School Program
The hours between 3 and 6 each afternoon are the most dangerous for our youth. In Montana a full 40% of children ages K-12 are responsible for taking care of themselves after-school. This lack of good after-school care has far reaching ramifications for our children and our communities. Children who lack adult supervision have an increased likelihood of accidents and injuries, lower social competence, lower GPA’s, lower achievement test scores and are more likely to participate in high risk activities such as delinquency, experimentation with alcohol, tobacco, drugs and sex.
The Boys & Girls Club
The Boys and Girls Club now runs for 41 weeks a year at 4 locations in Missoula County concurrent with the school year, making sure that families have safe and educational after-school care available to them from the first day of school to the last. Our program provides comprehensive homework help and tutoring that gives members the support, resources and guidance necessary to complete their homework and start their next day with a sense of confidence and ability. Our experienced staff is always on hand to maintain a positive, friendly, and fun environment. Together we work to guide and assist all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.
