Well, we all have a favorite drink that keeps us energetic and attentive ready for the day’s accomplishments. But if you are like many people, your answer most likely revolves around coffee.
Thanks to its many benefits, coffee is arguably the most preferred drink around the world. From boosting your energy levels to improving concentration, helping with weight loss, and boosting physical performance, the health benefits of coffee are incredibly numerous. For those who are still single and searching for their better halves, coffee is among the safest words to mention when asking someone out.
But did you know that you don’t always have to go out to enjoy a nice come of coffee? With the right equipment and skills at your disposal, you can make yourself a nice cup (or several) of coffee without having to spend much. You can become your own barista at home! Without further ado, here are 4 types of coffee you can make at home.
1. Espresso
For the coffee enthusiasts out there, you’ve probably tried this one at your favorite coffee shop or restaurant. Espresso coffee is basically the purest, most concentrated version of coffee you will find, and it is the foundation of many other types. It requires a great brewing process and sometimes sophisticated coffee machines. As the folks from Sip Coffee House put it, you can make a replica of the espresso served at your local coffee shop without having to own an expensive espresso machine. You simply need to know the right techniques and have the right equipment.
If you don’t have an espresso making machine, the three ways you can make good espresso from homer include:
- Using an Aeropress,
- Using a Moka Pot,
- Using a French Press.
The quality of your espresso shot will primarily rely on the brewing process. When you start advancing your barista prowess at home, you will even learn to make the Doppio or double espresso, which contains two espresso shots in one cup, creating a stronger and heavier flavor.
2. Café Latte/Cappuccino
Cappuccino is another type of coffee drink that you can make right from the comfort of your home. This coffee drink consists of an espresso shot, along with some steamed milk topped with microfoam. The main difference between cappuccino and café latte is the amount of micro-foam added. While the café latte contains just 1cm of foam, cappuccino contains about 2-3cm of microfoam. Cappuccino also includes a sprinkle of chocolate on top of the mil and foam.
To make a latte at home, you will need a coffee maker and an electric mixer. Just steam the milk, simmering it until it starts to form side bubbles but don’t let it boil. Next, use your electric mixer to make some foam by whipping the milk. Once done, make espresso coffee in a French Press or drip coffee maker. Now, pour the espresso into a cup, followed by milk, and foam in that order, so that each makes 1/3 of the resulting drink. Bravo, you have a cup of café latte! Some people like to add flavor with syrups and vanilla or chocolate-flavored milk, making it cappuccino when more foam and chocolate are included.
3. Flat White Coffee
Every day, traditional coffee drink amongst Australians and New Zealanders, the flat white is another easy-to-make coffee at home. The process is similar to making Latte. The only difference is that no foam is included this time, so it’s quicker to make.
4. Mocha
Mocha typically consists of three main constituents. These are milk, chocolate powder, and an espresso shot. It is among the most popular drinks for coffee lovers with a sweet tooth. Simply mix a shot of espresso with one spoon of chocolate powder and stir, topping it up with steamed milk. Next, add foam (2-3cm) and sprinkle chocolate powder on top. You just made yourself a fine brew of mocha!
Finally, you can always make coffee at home using pre-ground coffee, which most of us know as instant coffee. Just put a spoon or two of your pre-ground instant coffee in a cup and add hot water. You can add sugar, milk, or both. The choice is really yours. In a nutshell, you don’t always have to spend money on gas or time visiting the coffee shop for that uplifting punch. You can make this energetic drink right from your home’s comfort, and the above are just a few ways how.
