Former Grizzlies Dante Olson and Jerry Louie-McGee have been added to the Edmonton Football Team’s negotiation list, officially claiming the exclusive Canadian Football League rights of the two Montana standouts, the CFL announced Thursday.
All nine CFL clubs unveiled their 10-man negotiation list for the first of two times they will do so in the year. CFL by-laws permit each team to place up to 45 players on its negotiation list. Players can be added, removed, or traded from the list at any time. Being named to a negotiation list does not mean a player has signed with the team, and players remain free to pursue opportunities elsewhere, including the NFL.

Olson was a Buchanan Award-winning linebacker for the Grizzlies who signed as an undrafted free agent with the Philadelphia Eagles before being cut at the end of training camp. He became Montana’s all-time leading tackler in just two seasons as a starter and broke the Big Sky record for most tackles in a season with 179 as a senior.
Louie-McGee became Montana’s all-time leader in pass receptions, finishing his storied career with 230 catches for 2,277 yards to break Raul Pacheco’s 1998 record of 192 career catches.
The CFL has been a home away from home for Montana alumni in recent years. Olson and Louie-McGee were named to Edmonton’s negotiation list by the club’s General Manager and Vice President of Football Operations Brock Sudnerland – himself a former Grizzly.
Montana legend Dave Dickenson and his brother Craig Dickenson both serve as head coaches in the CFL, with Dave in Calgary with the Stampeders, and Craig in Saskatchewan with the Roughriders.
Former UM quarterback Dalton Sneed also signed with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers earlier in the year and remains on the team’s roster.
Also being named to negotiation lists from the Big Sky Conference were Bryce Sterk from Montana State (B.C. Lions) and quarterback Case Cookus of Northern Arizona, who was also claimed by Edmonton.
The CFL canceled its 2020 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and plans to return to play in 2021.
