A northwest Montana campground has temporarily banned tents and soft-sided campers after a grizzly bear made its way into the area.
The Missoulian reports that hard-sided campers, camper vehicles and pickup trucks with small canvas pop-ups will be allowed at the Many Glacier Campground.
Park officials say they decided on the restriction after a small grizzly bear weighing about 150 pounds entered a campsite on Friday where two campers were cleaning trout. The campers moved away, and the bear ate the fish before pawing and biting two backpacks in the campsite.
It is not clear when the restriction will be lifted.
Park officials say it is very difficult to change bears’ behavior when they receive food from people or become used to foraging in developed areas.
