THE GAMES: The University of Montana Grizzlies (1-4) are back in action for a pair of home games after more than a week off, hosting the University of Idaho Vandals (4-5) on Wednesday, Dec., 11 and the Saint Martin’s Saints (1-6) on Sunday, Dec. 15.
GRIZ LAST TWO GAMES: At Hawaii 72, Montanan 61: Forward Christian Standhardinger scored a game-high 26 points to lead UH. Senior G/F Kareem Jamar led the Griz with 16 points and 6 rebounds, while junior guard Keron DeShields added 11 points.
At Washington 83, Montana 79: Jordan Gregory and DeShields both had career-highs in scoring, but the Griz fell short. Gregory scored 27 points, while DeShields had 20. UM’s downfall was on the boards, where the Huskies out-rebounded the Griz 34-14.
GRIZ LAST SEASON: The Griz were 25-7 and won the Big Sky regular-season title with a 19-1 record. Jamar was named the Big Sky MVP, while Gregory was an honorable mention all-league pick. UM returns three starters and eight lettermen this season.
COACH TINKLE THIRD IN CAREER WINS: With UM’s win at South Dakota State on Nov. 14, Griz coach Wayne Tinkle’s 142 career wins rank him third in school history.
JAMAR 15TH IN SCORING: Jamar has 1,206 career points, which ranks him 15th in school history. He needs 9 to pass Charles Davis (1,214 points, 1947, 1951-53) for 14th.
SERIES: Montana leads 1-0.
