OGDEN, Utah (March 19, 2013) – Montana’s Robin Selvig has been named the Big Sky Conference Women’s Basketball Coach of the Year. This is the 18th time that Selvig has been named COY dating back to the 1982-83 season.
Selvig is in his 35th season with the Lady Griz. He led Montana to a 24-7 overall record, and went 16-4 in conference play to win the regular-season title and host the tournament. Montana had a bye in the first round as the No. 1 seed. The Lady Griz defeated the No. 5 seed Sacramento State on Friday 74-53 and went on to defeat the No. 2 seed Northern Colorado in the championship game 56-43.
Montana won its 20th title, and will face the No. 4 seed Georgia in the NCAA Tournament in Spokane, Wash. Under Selvig, two players were named to the 2012-13 All-Conference team in senior Katie Baker and Kenzie De Boer. Both were named to the first team, while Baker was also named the regular-season Most Valuable Player.
After the conference tournament both Baker and De Boer were named to the all-tournament team. De Boer was named tournament Most Valuable Player.

In Selvig’s 35 seasons with Montana, he has compiled a 798-254 record overall with a 319-67 Big Sky record. The last time that UM was in the NCAA Tournament was in 2011 when it lost in the first round to UCLA in Spokane, Wash.
He is assisted by Annette Rocheleau, Shannon Schweyen and Trish Duce. Rocheleau, who is in her 32nd year on Selvig’s staff, is the longest-tenured assistant women’s basketball coach in the country. Schweyen, entering her 21st year, and Duce, beginning her 19th, rank eighth and ninth on that list.
The Lady Griz will be going to their 16th NCAA Tournament to face the No. 4 seed Georgia on Saturday in Spokane, Wash., at 3:30 p.m. Pacific. The last time Montana faced Georgia in the tournament was in 2000 and the Lady Griz lost 74-56. The last time Montana moved out of the first round was in 1995, when it defeated San Diego State and then lost in the second round to Purdue.
