SUPERIOR – The Montana Highway Patrol troopers are piecing together Wednesdays fatal crash near Superior which includes trying to figure out where everyone was in the SUV and who wore seat belts.
Trooper Shawn Smalley says nine people from the Seattle area were inside the Dodge Durango, including six children, when the driver went into the median, overcorrected twice and that caused the SUV to roll. He says almost everyone was thrown from the vehicle and a 1-year-old boy died as a result of his injuries.
“We’re really in the initial phase of the investigation and just trying to pin down exactly what happened. Because of the number of people (it’s) confusing and hard to find and pin down exactly where people were and if they had seat belts, if they were ejected,” Smalley said.
He also says the occupants in that SUV might not have had injuries that were as severe had they worn seat belts.
The conditions of the people involved in the crash are unknown at this time and the name of the little boy killed is not being released just yet.
