The Missoula Community Theatre audition for The Bridges of Madison County is Sunday, January 15th, 2023, from Noon to 4PM at the MCT Center for the Performing Arts. Callbacks as needed to follow later that day for this musical, which is based on the 1992 novella by Robert James Waller with music score and lyrics by Tony Award-winning Jason Robert Brown.
The Bridges of Madison County is being directed by Missoula native Andy Meyers, Artistic Director of Fort Peck Summer Theatre. Most recently, Meyers served as director/choreographer for MCT’s Seussical, The 39 Steps and The Winter Wonderettes. Courtney Crary is the show’s music director. She played Maria in MCT’s West Side Story and appeared in the ALL TOGETHER NOW! Broadway revue. She was also an adjunct voice professor at Rocky Mountain College and New York University.
The Bridges of Madison County boasts a variety of wonderful, rich roles for actors 16 years and older. Meyers anticipates casting 5 leading adult roles, 2 major roles for late teens, plus a small 6–8-person ensemble of diverse ages, who will double in multiple roles.
Please note the leading roles of Robert and Francesca (made famous on film by Meryl Streep and Clint Eastwood) will share quite a bit of intimacy, which will be approached with great consideration based on the comfort levels of the 2 actors who are cast. All roles, especially Francesca and Robert, require strong vocal ranges and technique, as the music spans from operatic to blue grass. While the Jason Robert Brown show is known for its demanding vocal score, all the roles carry equally challenging acting requirements. The show is rated PG-13.
If the opportunity presents itself, instrument-playing actors may be utilized within the staging. Dance requirements are minimal, but the entire production will move with great fluidity and style, spicing in creative movements whenever possible to enhance the storytelling.
