Yahoo and yee-hi-ho! It’s spring day camp and ro-de-o with the Missoula Children’s Theatre! Beauty Lou and the Country Beast will mosey on to the stage of the MCT Center for the Performing Arts March 15-19. Open to students in grades K-12, Beauty Lou day camp will be Mon-Fri, 9am-5pm. Due to changing COVID parameters, the performance schedule is to be determined.
Days of action-packed fun, laughter, music, and expression are what MCT day camps embody for its young cast members. All of the students will participate in an audition, receive a role, and rehearse MCT’s original musical Beauty Lou and the Country Beast. Camp/cast members will also experience the freedom of improvisation, the excitement of theatre games, and the thrill of performance!
Based on the classic fairy tale of Beauty and the Beast, but with an old-fashioned country western twist, Beauty Lou and the Country Beast is a tale of learning to look beyond appearances and first impressions to the beauty that dwells inside each of us. At the local county fair, young Beauty Lou is upset by the ungrateful behavior of a miner who has won the blue ribbon for his beautiful roses. She calls him a beast and wishes that he would look like one too. Years later, when in danger of losing the family farm, Beauty Lou agrees to befriend the Beast to save her family. Barnyard Critters, Country Folk, lots of family and farmhands, plus a playful Imaginary Friend, weave together a down-home story filled with laughter.
The Missoula Children’s Theatre has successfully and safely produced children’s programs since early summer of 2020 and continues to do everything possible to ensure a safe and fun environment for every class, every day. Tuition is $200 per student. (*Please note that the originally scheduled title spring day camp, Rumpelstiltskin, has been changed to Beauty Lou and the Country Beast.) Registration is available at MCTinc.org.
