Combine 116 exuberant young actors, an exciting new script and show, and a collaboration celebrating the theme “forging resilience” and what materializes? The world premiere of the Missoula Children’s Theatre production of The Snow Queen. This highly anticipated show will take place February 20 and 21 at the MCT Center for the Performing Arts.
The Silver Foundation, MCT’s collaborating partner, advocates for and supports projects that “explore the theme of resilience within all of us,” and MCT’s executive director and playwright/composer Michael McGill agreed that The Snow Queen would be a perfect fit for this theme. The tale introduces us to a young girl named Gerda as she embarks on an incredible quest to find her best friend, Kay, who has been kidnapped by the Snow Queen. Gerda encounters obstacles, deceit, and fantastic creatures (including snow chickens!), but she discovers that her own perseverance and determination are the keys to her successful journey.
All of the shows in the Missoula Children’s Theatre International Tour Project repertoire begin their world-wide journey with a premiere production at the MCT Center for the Performing Arts. The student actors of Missoula will be the first in the world to sing the original songs, wear the brand new costumes, and bring to life the characters through a fun, fulfilling rehearsal process. The Snow Queen will then make its way through North America and across oceans as part of an international tour. More than 36,600 kids and nearly 1,100 towns will experience The Snow Queen. This truly is a “world premiere”…opening in Missoula!
