Missoula Community Theatre Closes Season With
Shrek The Musical

The Missoula Community Theatre is closing out the 2014-15 season with a blockbuster show for the whole family!  Shrek The Musical runs May 1-3, 6-10 and 13-17 at the MCT Center for the Performing Arts.  The artistic team at the helm is director, Joseph Martinez; music director, Kurt Duffner; and choreographer, Christine Pepin, choreographer.

Shrek The Musical brings to life the story of an oversized, misunderstood, green ogre and a mixture of fractured fairytale characters.  According to Martinez, the story line follows closely that of the 2001 wildly-popular, animated film.  Audiences will enjoy the same loveable characters, but with the added bonus of a music score filled with songs ranging from silly, to romantic, to rock and roll.   Martinez also worked on a production of Shrek The Musical last summer in Fort Peck, and looks forward to bringing the story to life for Missoula-area audiences.  He offered his perspective on the experience.   “The show is big fun, silly and colorful.  But like most fairy tales, it also has a meaningful message to convey…that of acceptance. The main characters are ogres…freaks, really.  The song Freak Flag is all about that–living your life out loud, accepting yourself for who you are….and really celebrating that.”

A large cast and crew of adults, children and even a Dragon have an evening of surprises and fun in store.  Notable characters are “Shrek” (played by J. Scott Reilly), “Fiona” (Brit Garner), “Donkey” (Chris Vogl) and “Farquaad” (John Knispel).  Shrek The Musical is sponsored by First Security Bank and PayneWest Insurance.

On Tuesday, May 12th at 6:30 p.m. there is a special adapted performance for people living on the autism spectrum.  Tickets for all performances are available online at www.MCTinc.org , by calling 728-7529 or at the MCT box office.
