Missoula Parks and Recreation’s Meg Rogosienski says a “snowless” weather forecast is no reason to cancel a party. Snow or no snow, Parks and Recreation is hosting the first annual Marshall Mountain Winter Carnival on Saturday, February 22 at Marshall Mountain, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Marshall Mountain Classic snowshoe and ski races, also slated for the 22nd, have been canceled, for obvious reasons.
“We are all set to host a fun family event this Saturday, regardless of the weather,” recreation specialist Rogosienski says. “Any time families can get together to have fun in the outdoors is worth celebrating.”
The event features a free winter carnival for all ages, including fun family activities and information booths, avalanche and snow safety programs with the West Central Avalanche Center, adaptive sports demonstrations with U.S. Paralympic hopefuls, dog sledding demos, food and beverages, live music and more. And for the kiddos: Elsa, from the moveie ‘Frozen’ is making a special guest appearance. There is a free hourly shuttle to the Winter Carnival from McCormick Park, 600 Cregg Lane, from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The Carnival is free, but donations will be accepted for Reach MORE, Parks and Recreation’s outdoor recreation program for people with disabilities. The Marshall Mountain Winter Carnival is sponsored by U104.5, Bob Wards Sports and Outdoors, Community Medical Center, Orange Street Food Farm and The Good Food Store.
