Registration Open for Mollie Summer Adventures for kids and +50 Grandparents

The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at UM, affectionately known as MOLLI, offers programs that promote the lifelong learning and personal growth of +50 individuals through a diverse collection of non-credit short courses; special member events; member presentations; as well as an array of educational and social opportunities.

MOLLI Summer Adventures (Grandparent/Grandchild Camp) will take place on Tuesday, June 24 and Wednesday, June 25.

Registration is available through the MOLLI office. Adult participants must be MOLLI members. Learning pairs consist of one 50+ adult and one child. The cost of each two-day camp session is $100 per pair, plus the non-refundable annual $20 MOLLI membership fee if you are not already a current member. Amazing Animal Adaptations

Tuesday, June 24 and Wednesday, June 25, 2014; 9:00 am-2:00 pm, Montana Natural History Center

Ages: 7-10

Maximum Number of Learning Pairs: 7

Camp Description: Come learn about some amazing animal adaptations! We’ll start off by learning about some unique human adaptations, play some fun tracking games, learn about bears, visit an osprey banding site, and have a very special visit from Animal Wonders, an animal rescue organization based out of Potomac. We’ll play fun, educational games, and see what critters we can observe out in the field!

Crack the Case
Tuesday, June 24 and Wednesday, June 25, 2014; 9:00 am-12:30 pm, spectrUM Discovery Area

Ages: 6-8

Maximum Number of Learning Pairs: 10

Camp Description: Calling all detectives! Work together to map a crime scene, examine fibers under a microscope, and dust for fingerprints. On the first day, participants will learn all of the techniques to solve a crime. On the second day, you are the detective, and you must use all the forensic tools to crack the case!

Crime Scene Investigation
Tuesday, June 24 and Wednesday, June 25, 2014; 2:00 pm-5:30 pm, spectrUM Discovery Area

Ages: 9-13

Maximum Number of Learning Pairs: 10

Camp Description: Learn how investigators solve a mystery! Map a crime scene, examine fibers, fingerprint suspects, and explore blood typing. You will learn all the techniques used to solve a crime on the first day. On the second day, you will use the tricks learned to crack the case!

Museum Exploration
Tuesday, June 24 and Wednesday, June 25, 2014; 9:00 am-12:30 pm, Missoula Art Museum

Ages: 6-12

Maximum Number of Learning Pairs: 10

Camp Description: Participants will spend two mornings at the Missoula Art Museum, enjoying the art on view as well as creating their own art. Grandparents and grandchildren will work as a team in deciphering what they see and in making artwork.

Outdoor Recreation: Fishing and Treasure Hunt
Tuesday, June 24 and Wednesday, June 25, 2014; 9:00 am-12:30 pm, Missoula Parks and Recreation

Ages: 6-9

Maximum Number of Learning Pairs: 10

Camp Description: Fishing at Silvers Lagoon – Get ready to land the big one by spending your morning fishing at Silvers Lagoon at McCormick Park. We will focus on Rod and Reel fishing basics and other skills necessary in angling. All bait and equipment included!

Tower Street Park Treasure Hunt – See if you and your grandchild can use your skills to complete our treasure hunt along the Clark Fork River. Clues will lead you from hidden cache to hidden cache, work as a team to complete tasks and find the ultimate treasure at the end!

Outdoor Recreation: Geocaching and River Float
Tuesday, June 24 and Wednesday, June 25, 2014; 2:00 pm-5:30 pm, Missoula Parks and Recreation

Ages: 10-13

Maximum Number of Learning Pairs: 10

Camp Description: Geocaching on the River Front Trail – See how well you can work as a team using GPS devices to navigate around the Riverfront Trails of Missoula in this modern version of a treasure hunt. Geocaching is an outdoor recreational activity, in which the participants use a Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver or mobile device and other navigational techniques to hide and seek containers, called “geocaches” or “caches”, anywhere in the world.

River Float and more with Zootown Surfers – See Missoula from a new way by rafting the Clark Fork through town. We will put in near East Missoula and take out right at Silvers Park. We will view wildlife, talk about river ecology, and enjoy the day on the water! All equipment provided.
