Travis DeCuire (pronounced: dee-cure) has been selected to be the University of Montana’s 27th head men’s basketball coach, announced UM Director of Athletics Kent Haslam on Saturday, May 31, 2014.
DeCuire, who set and still holds the Grizzly career and single-season assists records during his three-year (1992-94) career at Montana, will be formally introduced at a press conference on Monday, June 2, at 1:00 p.m. in the Max & Betty Swanson Grizzly Sky Club, located on the fourth floor in UM’s Adams Center/Dahlberg Arena.
“I am excited to have Travis return to the University of Montana and lead the Griz men’s basketball program,” Haslam said. “I identified Travis as a very strong candidate early in the search process. The more time I spent with him understanding his vision not only for our program, but for the student-athletes he will mentor, the more impressed I became with him as a person and as a coach. I know Griz fans join me in welcoming Travis, his wife Sabrina, and their daughters Brianna and Tamia to the Missoula community.”
“I want to thank Eric Sprunk from Nike, Faculty Athletic Representative Dr. Dusten Hollist, and athletic department employees Justin Hunt, Greg Sundberg, and Jean Gee with all their help during this focused search process,” Haslam said.
DeCuire’s hiring is pending approval from Montana’s Board of Regents.
