Women Bike Missoula, a newly formed local group known as the MizzBs invites Missoula area women of all ages, abilities and biking experience to join them on their Inaugural Celebration Ride around town on Friday, April 25 at 5:15 PM at Big Sky Bikes (809 E. Front St.).
The Celebration Ride will start with a mini session on how to fix your own flat tire at Big Sky Bikes followed by a leisurely hour bike ride along the river and through town. This “no woman left behind” ride is intended to connect women who want to bike more in town as a mode of transportation or for recreation. The group ride will conclude with food and drinks at Brooks and Browns at the Holiday Inn Downtown.
Women Bike Missoula (MizzBs) strives to make bicycling possible for more Missoula women by sharing knowledge, experiences, and the joy and benefits of bicycling. Nationally, women account for just 24% of bicycle trips. Montana fares better than most states with 38% of bicycle commuters being women (2014 Benchmarking Report; Alliance for Biking & Walking and CDC). However, local women consistently cite safety, confidence, comfort and c
onvenience as barriers to commuting by bike. The MizzBs seek to help women overcome these obstacles through monthly social events, group rides, workshops and community outreach.
To participate in the Celebration Ride, women need to bring a helmet, their bike and lights. Dressing in layers and bringing money for the social afterwards is encouraged. For more information about the Celebration Ride, other upcoming events or about the MizzBs, find “Women Bike Missoula” on facebook or email women-bike-missoula@googlegroups.com.
Women Bike Missoula, a subcommittee of Bike Walk Alliance of Missoula (BWAM), is also made possible by the support of Adventure Cycling Association and the connections that result from bringing together women within the Missoula community. The Celebration Ride is co-hosted by Big Sky Bikes.
