Spring is here, and the City of Missoula Street Maintenance Division will begin its street cleaning schedule on Tuesday, April 1. Street cleaning activities will take place on Mondays through Fridays in the eight cleaning zones, running through July.
Street cleaning is important to preserve air quality by sweeping up winter’s sand before it blows in the spring winds. It also helps keep sediment and debris out of the storm-water drainage system. And clean streets look nice.
Street cleaning will begin in the Downtown special sweeping district #1 on Tuesday, April 1.
No parking is allowed on either side of the street in the special sweeping districts from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. on cleaning days. The Street Division posts reminder signs at the entrance of the sweeping districts the day before the area is swept. Cars left on the street will be towed, usually within two blocks of the vehicle’s original location.
Cleaning will continue April 2 – 4 in the rest of Area 1A, which is located north of the Clark Fork River and east of Orange Street and includes the Rattlesnake area. As always, drivers are asked to park on the even-numbered side of the street on even-numbered days and the odd-numbered side on odd-numbered days from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. See the complete map and schedule on the City of Missoula website.
Please help our Streets crews work efficiently and safely: Don’t dump yard waste or other materials onto streets or sidewalks, including dirt, landscaping materials, leaves, building materials and construction fencing. Crews pick up leaves only in the fall.
