Montana’s Kellie Cole has been named the Big Sky Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for the games played the week of Jan. 6-12.
Cole, a junior from Bozeman, Mont., averaged 22.5 points on .667 shooting and 6.0 rebounds per game to lead Montana to home wins last week over Eastern Washington and Portland State. Cole went 6 for 7 (.857) from 3-point range, 7 for 8 (.875) from the free throw line and added five steals and three assists.
In Thursday’s 81-64 victory over Eastern Washington in a matchup of the teams picked first and second in the Big Sky Conference preseason coaches’ poll, Cole had 22 points, seven rebounds and four assists. She went 7 for 13 from the field, 3 for 4 from 3-point range and 5 for 6 from the line.
In Saturday’s 94-58 win over Portland State, Cole had 23 points and five rebounds. Cole hit her first seven shots of the game and had 18 points at the half as Montana took a 48-30 lead into the break. She went 9 for 11 for the game and hit all three of her attempts from 3-point range and both of her free throws.
Cole has scored 21 or more points in all four of Montana’s Big Sky games and is 11 for 13 (.846) from 3-point range during league play.
