THE GAME: The University of Montana Grizzlies (2-4/7-8) begin a four-game Big Sky Conference road trip, starting with the Idaho State Bengals (3-3/6-9), Thursday, Jan. 23, with tip-off at 7:05 p.m. in ISU’s Reed Gym.
NEXT: The Griz are at Weber State on Saturday, Jan. 25, for a 7:05 p.m. contest.
GRIZ LAST TWO GAMES: Northern Colorado 84, at Montana 73: Forward Derrick Barden and guard Tate Unruh scored 20 points each to lead the Bears. Griz senior guard/forward Kareem Jamar scored a game-high 23 points. Keron DeShields tallied 19 points, while fellow junior guard Jordan Gregory added 17. The Bears out-rebounded the Grizzlies 31-15, including 23-4 in the second half.
At Montana 84, North Dakota 71: Jamar scored a career-high 33 points as the Grizzlies defeated UND. DeShields and Gregory scored 11 points each. UM out-rebounded a team the first time this season, 29 to 24.
COACH TINKLE THIRD IN CAREER WINS AT MONTANA: Griz head coach Wayne Tinkle’s 148 career wins are the third most in school history. Coach Tinkle needs seven more victories to move up to second and pass Mike Montgomery, who had 154 career wins in eight seasons from 1979-86.
JAMAR MOVES UP TO EIGHTH IN CAREER SCORING/STAYS 10TH IN CAREER ASSISTS: Jamar now has 1,405 career points which moves him up to eighth in school history, passing former forward Jordan Hasquet (1,396 points, 2006-09). He needs 80 points to move past former guard Will Cherry, who scored 1,484 points from 2010-13. Jamar remains 10th in career assists with 354. (See add 3-3-3).
SERIES: Griz lead 95-46 and have won the last seven in a row.
