The Lady Griz are now on a three-win streak after beating MSU Northern 76-49 in their season opener Sunday afternoon.
Montana kept the Skylights under 10 points for nearly 15 minutes of game clock, meanwhile racking up 35 points of their own thanks to the light touch of senior forward Jordan Sullivan. One of three Lady Griz to finish in double-digit scoring, Sullivan dropped 10 of her 12 total points in the first half along with five rebounds.
True freshman and Player of the Game Alycia Sims added seven points of her own paired with a team-high 10 rebounds. Head Coach Robin Selvig took advantage of the hefty lead and was able to get all rostered players on the floor for at least nine minutes and a basket. Montana scored 34 total points off the bench.
Two of this year’s newest additions are proving to be solid investments – Kayleigh Valley and Alycia Sims, both freshmen, have combined for 25 points and 23 rebounds over the last two home games. Both play with upperclassmen Hill, Sullivan and Kellie Cole as if they’d been in Missoula for years and should prove valuable in the spring.
Montana now has a week to prepare for another home matchup against Portland on Nov. 18th at 7.pm., and will then hit the road until the 33rd Annual Lady Griz Classic on Dec. 26th. The Griz will be playing an evening game against Idaho after the Irvine/Appalachian matchup, and the round-robin tourney will culminate Sunday, Nov. 7th.
