A Carousel for Missoula riders can earn a free ride each day in March in return for nonperishable food donations to the Missoula Food Bank. March is the 2nd annual Kids’ Nourish Month at the Food Bank and this is the first year the Carousel has participated.
Kids’ Nourish Month is designed to educate the community about local childhood hunger, provide additional resources to their child clients, and inspire local kids to engage in healthy activities. Children who suffer from hunger face challenges like stressful home environments, increased risk of missing school and having difficulty learning, and higher incidence of illnesses, including obesity and mental health challenges.
Event organizer and Community Relations Director at the Food Bank, Jessica Allred, says, “Although we are grateful for all donations, we are hoping this campaign can bring in donations like granola bars, fruit cups, peanut butter and jelly, and other healthy, kid-friendly food for our youngest clients.
“Missoula Food Bank is excited to team up with the Carousel as one of our partners in Kids’ Nourish Month. We are looking forward to working together in not only spreading awareness of childhood hunger in our community, but also to bring nutrition education to our child clients and to increase kid-specific food donations.”
In order to participate, interested riders simply need to bring a food donation to the Carousel. In exchange, riders will receive one free ride per donation per day.
