The donations are still trickling in, but by all accounts Saturday’s fundraiser for Camp Eyabsut has already exceeded expectations and should be considered a huge success. As of Wednesday, the amount raised is more than $15,500.

“It’s overwhelming,” said Lady Griz senior Alyssa Smith, who organized much of the fundraising efforts. “Words cannot describe or relate how I feel about it. It’s just so touching and special.

“I feel really blessed to be at the University of Montana and at the same time get to help something that means so much to me.”

According to camp director Jeanette Day, the amount raised through donations, T-shirt sales and bake sale will cover the cost of sending 20 kids to Camp Eyabsut this summer. That’s an impressive number considering the camp hosted 43 kids last summer.

Not only did the fundraiser go well, Montana beat Eastern Washington 76-51.

“Saturday was just an incredible day. Really special,” Smith said. “Everyone played really well. I think the whole day was a huge part of why we were so successful. Each of us was focused and came out ready to play.”
