Accolades continue to come the way of The University of Montana’s outstanding defensive players, as Zack Wagenmann and Jordan Tripp were both named to the Associated Press 2012 Football Championship All-America Team, AP announced yesterday (Wednesday, Dec. 12).
Earlier this week both Wagenmann (a third team pick) and Tripp (named to the second team) were named to The Sports Network 2012 Football Championship All-America Team.
A local product from Missoula’s Sentinel High School, Wagenmann, a 6-3 ½, 240-pound sophomore defensive end from Missoula, was named to the second team by AP. In 2012 he had a team-high 11.5 sacks and was Montana’s sixth leading tackler (tie) with 50 stops.
“Wags” is ranked fourth in the FCS, averaging 1.05 sacks a game. He was also a first team All-Big Sky Conference selection.
Tripp, a 6-3 ½, 244-pound junior linebacker from Missoula’s Big Sky High School, was named to the third team on defense. He was the Grizzlies’ second leading tackler with 95 stops and had a team-high 13.5 tackles for loss.
Tripp was Montana’s defensive team captain, and he was also a first team All-Big Sky pick.
The Big Sky placed 15 players on the Associated Press All-America Team, leading all conferences in selections.
So far, 20 different Big Sky players have earned All-America honors from the AP, Sports Network, or the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA).
